Not a Day Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth, by Dr. Everett Piper

The title of this book served as title to a column in today’s The Daily Wire. In “Not a Day Care,” Walter E. Williams describes the state of today’s college campuses and the evolution of “safe spaces” and identity politics. Citing Dr. Everett Piper’s new book, Not a note a daycare by dr. everett piperDay Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth, Williams writes:

Piper reminds us that today’s law students are tomorrow’s lawyers and judges. Based on what they are taught, there’s no mystery why lawyers and judges seek to legislate from the bench. Students who want to rid college curricula of dead old white men such as Plato, Aristotle, Voltaire and Kant will be on tomorrow’s school boards or be professors. This doesn’t bode well for our nation’s future.

Many colleges have become hotbeds of what might be labeled as enlightened racism. Students at the University of California, Berkeley created “safe spaces” for people of color. Resident advisers at Scripps College posted two signs to educate students about “emotional labor,” one aimed at white students and one for “people of color and marginalized backgrounds.” University of Michigan students demanded a “designated space on central campus for Black students and students of color to organize and do social justice work.” That was after the university caved to student demands and spent $10 million to build a multicultural center.

In Not a Day Care, Dr. Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University and author of the viral essay, “This Is Not a Day Care. It’s a University!,” takes a hard look at what’s happening around the country — including the demand for “safe spaces” and trigger warnings at universities like Yale, Brandeis, and Oberlin — and digs in his heels against the sad and dangerous infantilization of the American spirit.

From the publisher:

“You must read this book. Everett Piper is a man of courage and conviction. He stands nearly alone as an academic leader confronting the ideological fascism of the snowflake rebellion. His call for intellectual freedom must be heard.”—GLENN BECK

What has happened to the American spirit? We’ve gone from “Give me liberty, or give me death!” to “Take care of me, please.” Our colleges were once bastions of free speech; now they’re bastions of speech codes. Our culture once rewarded independence; now it rewards victimhood. Parents once taught their kids how to fend for themselves; now, any parent who tries may get a visit from the police.
